Scientific Method

Today Te Ngahere started a new activity in reading about science. First we had to learn the scientific method and understand it. The scientific method is the order you do science in, which I have shown on my Info graphic. I learnt that science has a method sort of like any baking recipe you have. I also learnt that you can change your hypothesis in the middle of your testing. I enjoyed making my Info graphic and I think next time I need to read the scientific method text closer. The scientific method goes like this, step 1 ask a question step, 2 research, step 3 make a guess, step 4 experiment, step 5 examine your work and then step 6 present. Here is my Info graphic.

Animation

In Te Ngahere we made animations about what we had been learning about in reading; like refugee’s , The New Zealand Land Wars, immigrant’s, Thomas Kendall and missionaries. Me and my friend Ben chose to do the New Zealand Land Wars. We had to learn a lot about the New Zealand Wars to actually make the animation. I found it really fun at times and then sometimes it was really annoying and hard like when we had to change the bullets on 88 slides because they were not musket bullets. I enjoyed making people on Funko Pop Yourself and recording the animation. After we finished the animation we had to record it. When recording Ben kept making us have to restart because he wanted it to be perfect. I think this was a really fun activity. I learnt a lot about the New Zealand Wars and why the men fought in the war like Hone Heke went to Kororareka to fight because the British were moving the capital to Auckland. Here is me and Ben’s animation.

Quick rip

In Te Ngahere some year 7&8’s had the chance to go to the Keri Keri Rugby Field including me. First we were given a parent to go with to the Keri Keri Rugby Field, I got to go with Fonz’s Nana. We went there to play a Quick Rip Tournament. Once we got to the rugby field we had to find out which field we were going to play on. After that we found a spot to put our bags. Then we had to wait to 10:30 for our first game against Keri Keri 2 I was really nervous. After that we waited around 20 minutes then we played Rawene then Kaikohe. We won against Keri Keri 2 and Rawene then lost our game against Kaikohe. Once we finished our games we played passes and I did really well at catching during passes which me made me feel happy. Then the ball got kicked onto the roof and Fonz climbed up to get it. Finally we went back to school but Fonz’s Nana took us to McDonald s to get a frozen drink. I really liked my Blueberry and Raspberry drink it was really tasty. I enjoyed playing Quick Rip and I felt really proud of myself when I got 2 tries. I think next time I could try catching the ball better during the games. I also think next time I need to learn the rules a bit better instead of just joining the team blind. Here are some photos of the games.

kapa haka

Last Friday the Kapa Haka Roopu went to the Cultural Festival at Kawakawa School. When we first arrived we just had to wait outside for a minute and then they welcomed us into their whare. Before we started the performing we sung a few waiata & himene. After that someone from each school introduced them self. Then we started the Cultural Festival, first Kawakawa school started with their younger kids they were pretty good at their performance and the boys were really into the haka. The group that went second was Kawakawa school’s little babies. After a few more performances we finally got to get up there and blow them away when we got onto the stage I saw Whaea Becks and Whaea Chrissy sitting on the seats. I felt really proud of myself after we finished our performance. I think next time I should do my actions better. I enjoyed the haka a lot and Rerenga Wairua.

Kapa Haka

This week for kapa haka we have been practising for the Cultural Festival that’s on Friday this week we’ve been learning a moteatea. We’ve also been practising 3 waiata the 1st one is Haire Mai then Ka Pioioi and after that we do Rerenga Wairua. After we do the waiata we do a haka called tautaua. I really enjoy doing the haka and next time I need to focus on learning the waiata better.

explorers

In Te Ngahere we are doing a panui activity about 4 explorers. The first one is Kupe, the second one is Nukutawhiti, the third one is James Cook, the fourth and final one is Abel Tasman. We found out some info about all 4 of them and picked 1 to make a presentation about that person. My group and I chose to do a presentation about James Cook. Doing this I learnt a lot about NZ’s history like James Cook was the one who recorded NZ on the map I really enjoy making the presentation about my person. I think I should have researched more about my explorer instead of the other 3. I think me and my buddies made the presentation quite well.
